Reflections of a Special Child

If I could just return, I would for a moment,
Just to remember what it was like…
Before we knew.

If I had the chance, I would revel
In knowing what it felt like…
Before something went wrong.

I would catch a glimpse
Of a tiny porcelain doll,
Bundled in pink from head to toe,
And I would recapture the sunny feeling
Of a little babe at my breast,
Snuggled in warmth and security.
I would delight in reliving each milestone…
The first laugh, seeing you watch your little hands,
And your smile of recognition when I walked by.
I would be so happy to recall the sight
Of you on your bottom full speed ahead
Getting anywhere you want and into everything.
And I would never again forget the sweet sound
Of your babbling and cooing
That really meant something then.

If I could return, I would for a moment
Just to embrace what it was like…
Before we knew.

I cherished those moments when they were here,
But it seems they are lost somewhere..
In the agony of what we’ve been through.
