I Am Me

Children stop and stare at me
They don’t know why I can’t be
Just as they are, fancy free.
They sense that something is wrong with me.

Others gaze and turn away
And they don’t know just what to say.
I don’t know why they can’t see
That while I’m different, I am me.

I know I can’t do everything.
I cannot talk, nor can I sing.
But I belong in this world, too
And I am happy, just like you.

We’re more alike than we are not
We really do share quite a lot
So when you see me, please don’t go
Just smile at me, and say hello.
