Why Not

I never asked you why, God;
I only thought, why not?
For you have blessed me tenfold
In bestowing my life’s lot.

You gave a precious family
Where I was special, you see;
And now I have these loved ones
To love and comfort me.

Then you gave to me a husband
To share sunshine and sorrow,
To be my partner throughout life
For today and for tomorrow.

You sent me three dear children
Who brighten every day
And pleasure me so greatly
In oh, so many ways!

You spread a blue expanse of sky
With soft white clouds above us
And rich green grass to lie down on
When summer is upon us.

You have shown me how magnificent
A real friend can be,
And you’ve taught me what’s important
You’ve shown me how to see.

So I don’t need to ask why, God
The answer is really quite clear.
My life has been so much richer
Since you sent this child to be near.
